Acme’s Silke Fernald spoke with Shoutout LA. Read the interview at shoutoutla.com.
Hi Silke, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I believe tenacity and a clear goal are essential for a successful career in Real Estate. To do it right and to do it well requires commitment and a strong work ethic. I owe that to my clients. They trust me with their largest investment, and that trust has to be earned and kept. Performing with excellence and attention to detail, along with being on top of things at all times is the most important factor to success. Constantly reinvent, stay ahead of the game, and continue to educate yourself. ACME Real Estate is a boutique Brokerage that does exactly that. We are Los Angeles hottest address for beautiful homes that are on par with current design trends. We are outside the box thinkers and constantly re-inventing. Design savvy buyers come to ACME because they know they will find exactly what they are looking for.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
A: I was born and raised in Germany, which tells you a little bit about how I approach my everyday work/career. I’m very detail-oriented, my motto is what you can take care of today, do not move to tomorrow. I’m a 150% kinda gal. and not to be cliche but I’m always on time – lol I pride myself on going above and beyond for my clients, I’m fun to be around, and have a huge heart! I really love meeting new people, hearing different stories, seeing how people live, different cultures, it never repeats. It’s the best. What I’m most proud of is that we were able to complete our second office location in West Adams during this pandemic. Courtney, Dominique, and I signed the lease in February and you all know what followed in March. It definitely slowed the entire operation down a little bit but we kept going and in July our gorgeous new office was completed. ACME West Adams is ready and we are open for business! It’s a huge accomplishment for me personally to be given the opportunity to step into the role of a Broker and to be able to mentor and help new agents be the best they can be. It’s an honor I don’t take for granted. It wasn’t always easy of course. My two kids were little when I started this career 7 years ago and to find a home life/work balance is hard. I still haven’t figured it all the way out. My amazing husband is to thank for keeping it all together and making sure we eat! It’s a team effort for sure!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A: My favorite place in Los Angeles hands down is the Griffith Observatory. It’s absolutely magical up there. The sunsets, especially toward the latter part of the year – like November and December are epic. That’s my first stop! The obligatory picture with the Hollywood sign is definitely on my list too, I know of a secret little spot for the best picture! For dinner, we would go to Alltime in Los Feliz or Cafe Stella followed by Bar Stella in Silver Lake, and imbibe my favorite cocktail, called the C.Arthur. If you are a foodie, LA is the place to be! From Gjeliina in Venice to Bestia in DTLA to dreamy Sushi at Yamashiro’s overlooking Hollywood and not to forget a stop at the Magic Castle for some amazing close-up magic in the Parlour of Prestidigitation, and to hear a ghost play piano. Only in Hollywood! Driving up the coast to Malibu, through Topanga Canyon is gorgeous as well. Driving on Mullholand and overlooking LA is definitely also on that list. I would throw a couple of cool architecturally significant houses into my tour, like the Frank Loyd Wright Ennis house that most people know from Bladerunner located in Los Feliz. Los Angeles is so rich in culture, people, food, and music! You can tell I love it here!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A: Courtney Poulos the Owner/Broker and mastermind of ACME Real Estate definitely deserves the largest shout-out here. Her encouragement, mentorship, and leadership qualities helped make me become who I am today. I believe mentorship is such an important piece to success. I hope that every young woman who is at the start of her own career has someone as amazing as I have, someone, who puts the wind in your sails but also provides tough love when needed. Another powerhouse I want to give a shout out to is Dominque Madden. Together we are running ACME’s new West Adams office. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner. We are just getting started and the sky’s the limit!
