Despite new home decor trends, a coffee table always seems to be a staple in everyone’s living room. It stays as a centerpiece that ties the room together, which makes it an important asset when decorating your home.
This year, instead of going for those same two boring art books, how about sprucing up your coffee table with some of these tips:
- START WITH A TRAY
It may seem a bit unnecessary at first, but a simple catchall tray may be the answer to your prayers. Find a monochromatic tray that will tie together all your furniture, and takes up a proportional piece of your table. Pro Tip: play with textures! A wood tray, for example, may be an interesting addition to your home.
2. LET’S KEEP IT AU NATURALE
You would be surprised by how a simple bouquet can brighten the entire room. Keeping in mind that this is the focal point of your living room, it seems almost essential that a bouquet of flowers should hold it all together. However, if you don’t have the time to pick out a bouquet and keep up with its maintenance, perhaps a few small succulents will be more your style.
3. IT ALL MAKES SCENTS
Candles and coffee tables are practically made to be together. Lay out your favorite scents to bring a sense of warmth and light to your home. Make sure the candle’s design compliments what else you have going on in your room. A white candle is usually a safe bet.
4. DON’T SKIMP ON READING MATERIAL
Okay… so no one actually reads your coffee table books, but that doesn’t mean you should skip out on the books all together. Perhaps you have a photographer you admire, or a treasured vintage copy of a magazine. These books allow you to show your personality through your coffee table.
5. INVEST IN AN INTERESTING TABLE
Allow your table to do the talking for you. With an eccentric table, you will be compelled to keep the decorating to a minimum. Search your local antique markets for a table that has a story, and it will save you a lot of time on decorating.
6. KEEPING IT SIMPLE
The main thing to keep in mind while you are decorating is to not over clutter. Keep proportions in mind. Remember, your job isn’t to display everything you own, some things are better saved for your bedside table. When in doubt, a minimalist approach is always a good way to keep things chic.
