The Kilim & Vintage Rug Movement: The Power of the Rug!

If you haven’t noticed that vintage rugs are totally “in” right now, then you must be living under a rock (or rug!). A decorative rug can make or break a room, adding powerful design and color as a focal point and allowing your classic pieces – the beds, chairs, tables, and couches, to be more subdued in both pattern and color. A rug can transform a house into a home and add the perfect element needed to tie your style together.

Many of the homes we feature on our blog have epic rugs, and the ones we usually love the most are vintage. Why? Because like most things vintage, the quality is better (things just aren’t made like they used to) and the style is unique, which is always a plus. No one wants their home to look like they just bought everything from the same catalogue or store model set. While some rugs made from the main home stores certainly mimic the cool vintage rugs we’re talking about, they are still mass produced – risking both quality and originality.

Both the Rose Bowl Flea Market and the Long Beach Antique Market are awesome places to score a unique and hip rug. Plus, you’ll have a ton of fun doing it and might pick up some other treasures along the way!

If you don’t have the time or patience to explore the many booths and piles of rugs here, you can resort to the internet! Etsy is actually a great place to find cool pieces, and the folks over at Hither & Thither wrote an awesome blog about THE BEST SOURCES FOR AFFORDABLE VINTAGE RUGS ON ETSY. With images like the ones below, you know you’re in great hands with this source!
